Operation Homefront’s Transitional Housing (Villages) program is an excellent option for wounded, ill, and injured service members with families who are going through the process of medically separating from the military. Not only are they eligible for this program, but veterans recently discharged and pending VA compensation for service-connected diagnoses are also eligible. The program provides fully furnished apartments that come with full utility services, internet access, cable TV, and telephone service. The best part? The service members and their families get to live rent-free while they go through the transition process.
Operation Homefront understands the challenges that service members and their families face during this challenging time, which is why they have a dedicated staff that provides monthly financial counseling, community activities, and case management support to these families. For those seeking military rent assistance, the program’s counselors set up a mandatory schedule that these service members, veterans, and their families must follow. They are required to attend support groups, workshops, benefits briefings, and resume writing classes as determined by their counselor. One-on-one financial counseling is also provided to reduce debt and build savings.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Operation Homefront’s Transitional Housing (Villages) program allows eligible service members to live rent-free while they go through the transition process. Upon placement, Operation Homefront’s counselors meet with each military family every 30 days to review their financial situation, determine where they are in the transition process, review their attendance in the required workshops and classes, and determine their ability to live on their own. Once the families have become self-sufficient, the counselors help them find suitable housing in the area they intend to live on a permanent basis. By the end of the program, veterans and their families should have VA benefits in place, debt significantly reduced, and emergency savings in place.

Operation Homefront currently operates its program in three locations across the country:
SoCal program: serves those primarily being treated at Balboa Hospital and Camp Pendleton.
Maryland program: serves those primarily being treated at Bethesda Naval Medical Center/Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir.
San Antonio program: serves those primarily being treated at Joint Base San Antonio and Audie Murphy VA Hospital.
